![]() ![]() Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty looks set to up the ante, with over 45 minutes of cinematics propelling the story along. Starcraft 2 is competitive to the point of celebrity status in some countries, Korea is home to the biggest competitions and some of the best players ever.Starcraft may often be evoked as the ultimate multiplayer RTS, but it has always sported a deep, complex and well-written storyline as well. It is very fast paced and really is only fun for experts. In versus mode and online, the emphasis is build quick, build lots, conquer the territory and mount endless streams of attacks. In campaign mode the missions are varied and have annoying objectives that have to be completed and often have little to do with attacking your opponent. ![]() Versus Mode and Online play is a completely different experience. To put it simply, the game is visually stunning. The environments are alive with active wildlife, streams, and vegetation, the characters are rendered to the point of individual markings on armor and structures all behave in their own unique way when in use. On a computer like the Macbook pro, the graphics have to run at less than half their intended levels. The game play is where the graphics really shine, if you have a strong enough computer that is. The campaign is made very engaging through the beautifully rendered cut scenes, something previous Starcraft titles lacked. In this campaign Zeratul warns Raynor of an impending apocalypse and Kerrigan’s vital role in the salvation of all the star systems. Once a Terran soldier and love interest of Raynor’s, Sarah Kerrigan was infested by the Zerg in the events of previous titles. Both campaigns also feature a Zerg leader, the Queen of blades. It introduces another character, a Protoss named Zeratul, a high ranking warrior and mystic who allies himself with James Raynor in their effort to fend of the Zerg swarm. The Protoss campaign is very brief and does very little to properly teach a player how to use the race effectively. A frustrating discovery to say the least. It later occurred to me that the versus mode or online portions of the game did not include most of the older units. This mode also introduces new available units (soldiers, vehicles or workers) to the units from the old titles. It also offers a crash course in base building, producing units, monetary habits and launching successful offensives. The Terran campaign allows the fans to revisit some other prominent characters and to be introduced to new ones in the storyline. The Terran Campaign in Starcraft 2 also follows the story of James Raynor, a rebel leader bent on eradicating the Zerg and defeating the corrupted leaders of his time, Tychus Findley, a friend of Raynors and a convict, and Arcturus Mengsk, bitter enemy of James Raynor and dictator of Terran planet systems. This makes playing with this race a little bit more comfortable. The humans are made very easy to understand simply from the language used in the game, words like marine, barracks, armory, and factory are all pretty familiar. The Terrans are usually the starting race in the Starcraft games, which seems the least complicated race to play with, they have the longest campaign portion, Protoss only have a few missions and Zerg do not have a campaign option at all. The given terrain offers other sites at which raw materials can be collected, all valuable territory. ![]() Units, or soldiers and vehicles also require unique portions of minerals and gas, all units can be made stronger with upgrades available for purchase from various structures. Each structure serves its own purpose, some build units, others are necessary to build in order to gain access to more structures and different units, each requires raw materials to be used up. The Terrans are medium strength and medium building speed race, the Zerg are low strength high volume and the Protoss are high strength but expensive.Ī player must use workers to harvest two raw materials in order to build structures Minerals from crystal deposits and gas from Vespene giesers. Each race builds unique units and structures and therefore requires a different strategy for game play. The game play and story are intertwined and told through one of three available races of beings the Terrnas (humans), the Protoss (advanced, humanoid alien race), and the Zerg (an alien mutant infestation). The player plays the role of not one character, but a commander of an offensive force. Starcraft by Blizzard Ent, is a strategic war game with a sci-fi space theme available for the computer. ![]()
